C2 crutches (Pre-Production)

About the C2 (prototype) crutches

Setting the benchmark for performance and strength, the C2 (prototypes) were used to achieve a world record for running with crutches in the hands of Michael Milton. Michael also used them to compete in an ultra-trail Australia race!

These crutches are optimised to be stiff, lightweight, and reduce user fatigue. They were a one-off production unit featuring integrated handgrips and a fixed cuff to keep the weight to a minimum.  Their construction is entirely carbon fibre. To keep them lightweight, they were not painted!

Production C2 crutches

We’re continuing to grow the ultra-lightweight performance benefits of the prototype C2 crutches and create a configurable product for everyday use as well as for sports and rehabilitation. The production C2 crutches have the high-performance DNA of the prototype units, with users being able to enjoy the configurable options and comfortable compliance of the production units.

Fun-ctionality for everyday

With functionality improvements such as pivoting cuffs, removable shafts and interchangeable hand grips, production C2 crutches are more flexible for everyday use but retain the performance edge of the prototypes.

Production C2’s are made of pre-impregnated carbon fibre, 6061–T6 aluminium, titanium and filament-wound carbon fibre tubes. We’ve selected the best materials to make what we believe is the world’s best pair of crutches. The C2 will meet the needs of the most demanding tasks, they’ll be as reliable around the home as they will be on an expedition, mountainside, or on the snow.

Compliance testing will be completed to the international standard for forearm crutches (ISO 11334-1:2007) and the crutches are registered as a Class 1 medical device.

Pre-register for your C2s

All C2 crutches will be custom-configured to your specifications and options. We’re taking contact details now (with no deposit) to secure your pair. If you’d like to register, also share how you’ll use your set and preferred options.

Options

C2 crutches are made to fit your needs and goals, whether for day-to-day use or something extreme, like an Ultra-trail race or soccer match. You’ll be able to specify hand grips, grip height (measured from the ground) and cuff-to-hand grip length (clasped hand to elbow)

Some of the options we’ve developed include the following:

  • Closed cuffs for sports and running

  • Colour options

  • Snow and sand tips for use in different conditions

  • Active bag to fold and store your crutches

If we don’t have what you need or your preferred features are not listed here, please get in touch and we will do our best to supply your preference.

CARBON FIBRE TRANSFER BOARDS

The T1 Transfer Board

Our ultra-lightweight transfer boards are sturdy for practical, and safe everyday use. They feature unparalleled stiffness and durability. These transfer boards are made to fit comfortably into your daily routine; they are easier to manoeuvre and use than traditional wood and plastic units.

By using advanced production processes we have been able to dramatically reduce the thickness of the board, thus reducing the likelihood of edge injuries and providing a smoother transition on and off the board. At the same time, our boards are stiffer than others and won’t buckle when you slide across them.

HOW THEY WORK

The T1 improves upon traditional transfer board designs by addressing fundamental problems in weight, friction, durability, bendability and edge thickness. Our design uses carbon fibre allowing us to manufacture a board that is up to ten times thinner than traditional transfer boards.

The carbon fibre surface is smooth, with a super-thin edge, making it much easier to use. When used, the edge of the board is almost the same height as the transfer material, which makes it easier to slide on and off.

Configured or CUSTOMISED

Our transfer boards come in 3 sizes and we also offer non-standard sizes.

  • T1-a 450.00 mm long by 270.00 mm wide

  • T1-b 550.00 mm long by 330.00 mm wide

  • T1-c 650.00 mm long by 370.00 mm wide

Custom non-standard T1 boards are available in a range of sizes and shapes such as rectangular, oval, elliptical, and tapered. contact us if you’d like a standard or non-standard T1.

GRIP STICK option

We offer an optional GRIP STICK surface treatment that provides a more sticky edge on the underside, made of conforming rubber to help keep the board in place during transfers.

Racing track chair

The Delta-1

Carbon Adaptive is developing a racing wheelchair called the DELTA-1 for track and road racing. The DELTA-1 incorporates technical and usability improvements to increase efficiency, reduce fatigue and improve the fit and finish for athletes. These improvements will enable Delta-1 racers to perform to their ability.

Focus areas for the Delta-1

Ergonomics: Our chairs are fitted to each athlete using configurable and custom parts. This increases comfort and the connection the athlete has with the chair.

Aerodynamics: We use shapes and forms that divide and smooth the air to reduce aerodynamic drag and increase performance and efficacy.

Mechanical: Our steering, braking and compensator systems are designed to be integrated and highly effective, lightweight, and serviceable.

Structural: Beam stiffness and racer configurations are optimised with our design and result in improved efficacy and serviceability .

Horizon products, development and prototyping

Leaning into the future

Carbon Adaptive is developing ultra-lightweight products now. Our horizon projects for new products involve higher levels of technology for better human/ AT integration, electromechanical systems integration and proprietary development for more enabling products.

We’re interested in hearing from users, suppliers, researchers and investors to make these horizon products possible sooner.
