WHAT WE DO
Carbon Adaptive constructs assistive technologies (AT) using materials and processes that might usually be reserved for motorsport, aerospace and high-performance athletes. In 2018, our prototype crutches set a world record for running with crutches at the Australian Institute of Sport, paving the way for the development of other AT products.
Carbon Adaptive customers use our products for high-performance sports, rehabilitation, as well as everyday activities. We build almost everything in-house, which means we can tailor and configure your AT to meet your needs.

Our products are created with user considerations at the centre of the design, engineering and manufacturing processes.
The best products require the best materials and technology at our disposal. At Carbon Adaptive we embrace advanced materials, design and manufacturing. We employ in-house computer-aided design, 3D scanning, 3D printing, advanced composites fabrication and traditional metal fabrication capabilities. More on this on the manufacturing page.
We partner with suppliers and companies who are leaders in their field to ensure that the best combination of robustness and lightweight advantages are inherent in our products.

Carbon Adaptive is a Canberra-based company that services Australia and other markets. We strive to produce functionally beautiful, high-quality, and lightweight AT to help people achieve their goals and live their lives comfortably, successfully, and with enhanced ease and performance.

Our Founder
David Barbalet founded Carbon Adaptive as a vertically integrated manufacturing business to create AT that changes how people engage with the world around them. Having graduated with a degree in Industrial Design in 2007, Dave has been engaged in motorsport, aviation and commercial projects that have incorporated advanced manufacturing, Industry 4.0 principles, and program management.
Dave is passionate about using high-performance materials for AT to increase efficiency, reduce weight and lower user fatigue. For products in motion, these materials combined with aerodynamic design, structural optimisation, and tailored fit, result in world-class sporting and AT equipment.
Dave works closely with athletes at the Australian Institute of Sport to create products to meet their needs. These advanced AT features trickle into commercial products for rehabilitation and everyday use.
